About the Tribe

Why we started

Yeats saw it a hundred years ago: men ruffling in a manly pose, pretending to have it all together and to need no one. We're expected to know how to fix whatever breaks and to carry the weight of everyone who depends on us.

But what if we don't know how? What if our dad never took the time to teach us to change our own oil or field dress a deer? What if he didn't know how either?

Most of us have spent our lives pretending, posing and hiding, carefully avoiding anything that might expose us. True Blue Tribe is a place where it's okay to say "I don't know how," and to find a man who does and will pass it on. We're tired of posing and ready to live a bigger and better story.

What we believe

Every man has something to teach, and every man has something to learn. That line has been in our founding document since 2012, and it's why this site carries many voices, not one.

We grow in four places, the 4 Mountains: heart, body, mind and spirit. You're either growing or you're dying.

And men make men. A man's character is called out of him by other men. That's what initiation has always been, and it's what this place is for.

Who's behind it

Tray Lovvorn founded True Blue Tribe in 2012 and hosts Men Make Men, a True Blue Tribe podcast. The Tribe has always been bigger than one man: our first season carried writers, grill masters, hunters, marathoners and style columnists, and the house is opening back up to new voices.
